Spinner Dokuhon Final Plus 44 Gallery

Written by synaptyx

These are the images from the CDROM that came with the incredibly rare Japanese book, Spinner Dokuhon Final Plus 44

Enjoy! :)

The images are all presented in their original resolution, yep they're that small. Bit of a shame really.

New BLADE RUNNER font

Written by synaptyx

How often does it happen? Too often with this film. Browsing around the web the other day, I came across a BLADE RUNNER poster* I hadn't seen before. It was a photo of Harrison Ford as Deckard, with an unfamiliar "BLADE RUNNER" logo, in yellow. At the bottom of the poster are the words "The National College Preview presented by Schlitz," with the Schlitz logo in place of the word.

{rokbox title=||}images/stories/posts/Blade-Runner_College-Preview-Poster-Schlitz_feat_Impact-Runner.png{/rokbox}

I suspect that these must have been produced prior to the general release of the movie, when the final graphics and logos had yet to be decided upon. These posters are very rare and good condition examples are extremely hard to find. I saw one on Ebay recently, I can't remember the exact figure, but $500 springs to mind. Ouch!

I quickly ran the logo through Photoshop, turning it black on white and uploaded it to the excellent WTF (What The Font) font identifier service. The result came back as "Impact." That old font!? That big chunky font, sitting in every Windows PC on the planet? Obviously it was an adapted version and finding no references to it, other than this poster and the cover of a book entitled "BLADE RUNNER - A Story of the Future," I took matters into my own hands and produced "Impact Runner," a font based on Impact, but with the minor adaptations displayed in the logo on the poster (and book). You can download it in the downloads section (Scroll down a bit, it's there.) Enjoy! :)

*The version linked to is a cleaned up version using "Impact Runner" to re-typeset the logo. Other fonts used are "Helvetica Condensed," "Century Gothic Bold" and "Helvetica Compressed," the latter of which I don't own, so had to substitute "Helvetica Condensed Bold."

BLADE RUNNER Game Font UPDATE

Written by synaptyx

No, sorry, still didn't find it, but I have found something very similar. I used the excellent services at MyFonts to try and track it down, but I was out of luck with the image-based font identifier. I then posted in the forum and a user, ryukk, recommended "Opeln2001" as a substitute that, with work, could be made to look like the BLADE RUNNER Game Font.

Sample:

You can download "Opeln2001" and the Blade-A-Like font pack from our downloads section.

GRID RUNNER from Llamasoft, 1983

Written by synaptyx

After each day's show was over we'd sometimes head off into London to eat or to go to the arcades in the West End, and at that time the excellent movie “Blade Runner” was just out in cinemas and the walls of the Tube had many posters up advertising it. I hadn't yet seen the movie myself (I would get to enjoy that a couple of weeks later), but the posters were striking; the name of the film and the typeface of the font looked interesting... and for some reason I was thinking about the next game I wanted to do, which I wanted to be another unexpanded Vic game but wasn't sure what it would be like at that point. And while staring at one of the Blade Runner posters waiting for the Tube, the name “Grid Runner” popped into my head. That felt like it could be a cool name for a game. Now all I had to do was think of a game to fit the name.
